Advanced Diagnostic Imaging
Esaote G-scan MRI
At Willinga Park Equine Vet Hospital, we are proud to introduce a ground-breaking advancement in equine diagnostics — the Esaote G-scan MRI, an unparalleled system dedicated to the precise evaluation of bone and soft tissue injuries. Standing as the sole system of its kind in Australia, this technology marks a transformative milestone in equine healthcare. The G-scan is the only MRI system capable of scanning the upper limbs of horses, including the carpus, tarsus, and stifle. The design and rotating mechanism of the G-scan enable the creation of exceptional three-dimensional images, providing a comprehensive view of anatomical structures, including the head and neck. The G-scan MRI complements traditional lameness evaluations, seamlessly integrating with digital radiography and ultrasonography. This synergy empowers our veterinary team to diagnose bone and soft tissue diseases comprehensively.
Digital Radiography
Our digital radiography services deliver high-resolution imaging for accurate assessment of bones, joints, and soft tissues. We utilise radiographs daily for lameness investigations, pre-purchase and neuromuscular evaluations, and foal assessments, allowing precise diagnosis and informed treatment planning.
Comprehensive Ultrasound
We use advanced ultrasound to evaluate abdominal, thoracic, and musculoskeletal health. Musculoskeletal ultrasound aids in diagnosing tendon, ligament, and joint injuries, supporting accurate treatment and rehabilitation plans. Abdominal ultrasound helps detect colic, organ abnormalities, masses, and foal disorders such as umbilical infections and meconium impactions. Thoracic ultrasound assesses lung and heart function, ensuring optimal respiratory performance.
Airway Endoscopy
Endoscopic evaluations allow detailed examination of the upper respiratory tract including the nasal passages, ethmoid turbinates, guttural pouches, pharynx and larynx. We can detect conditions such as ethmoid hematomas, fungal infections, laryngeal hemiplegia, dorsal displacement of the soft palate, epiglottic entrapment, as well as lower airway disease.
Gastroscopy
We use a 3-metre high-definition video endoscope to examine the stomach and oesophagus, identifying gastric ulcers, inflammation, strictures, obstruction, or masses. Based on findings, we develop tailored treatment plans including dietary management, medication, or other interventions to restore gastrointestinal health. We always have gastroscopy available but offer discounted pricing during our monthly scoping weeks.
Arthroscopy and Laparoscopy
Minimally invasive procedures like arthroscopy and laparoscopy allow precise diagnosis and treatment of joint, soft tissue, and abdominal conditions. These techniques reduce recovery time and improve outcomes for performance and pleasure horses alike.
